Hamburg-based company SAL Heavy Lift, a member of the “K” Line Group – the Japanese shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. –, is one of the leading carriers worldwide specialized in the sea transportation of heavy lift cargo.
Founded in Steinkirchen in the “Altes Land” region near Hamburg, Germany in 1980, the company’s roots stretch back to the first ship delivery in 1865. In 2013, the SAL Heavy Lift head office relocated to Hamburg’s HafenCity.
SAL Heavy Lift maintains representative offices worldwide and co-operates with a network of agencies. The company has a total of nearly 700 employees across the world.
It operates a fleet of 16 heavy lift ships, financed through its own means and through banks. Amongst the trademarks of the fleet are a high crane capacity of up to 2,000 mtons SWL and an unrivalled speed of 20 knots. The latest new buildings, equipped with Dynamic Positioning System 1 respectively DP 2, are well-prepared for offshore subsea installations. The internal engineering department develops individual transportation solutions for all types of project cargoes and offshore projects.
